Riding

In a small passenger car, we sailed among Hawaiian roads. My sister drove and my husband navigated from the front seat. The two tallest folks in front, we remaining three sat squished in the back. I was behind the passenger seat, comfortably nestled against the door, with a childhood friend's shoulder in line with my own. She sat happily in the middle, her sister to her left behind the driver. We were all adults merrily fulfilling a childhood daydream. Silly songs of anticipation and food bounced around from the backseat. Commentary with attempts at Australian accents responded from the front. We traveled in search of volcanoes, oceans, and telescopes, like adventurers of yesteryear.
